HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 37
(By Mr. Speaker, Mr. Kiss, and Delegates Davis,
Varner, Pethtel, C. White, Ennis, Capito,
Douglas, Staton, Anderson and Caputo)
Designating the first week of March as West Virginia Consumer
Protection Week, and urging all West Virginians to take
advantage of consumer education and outreach programs such
as those administered by the West Virginia Attorney General.
Whereas, West Virginia consumers need objective information
in order to make informed decisions; and
Whereas, Consumer education is the best defense in combating
consumer fraud; and
Whereas, State and local government agencies, together with
consumer education networks, work cooperatively to serve West
Virginians in the area of consumer protection; and
Whereas, West Virginia's Attorney General receives
approximately 8,900 written consumer complaints annually; and
Whereas, Over the past two years, the West Virginia Attorney
General's Office has recovered more than 10.8 million dollars on
behalf of West Virginia consumers and the State; and
Whereas, The Federal Trade Commission has designated the
first week of February as consumer protection week; therefore,
be it
Resolved by the Legislature of West Virginia:
That in concert with the Federal Trade Commission's previous
action, the first week of March is hereby designated Consumer
Protection Week throughout West Virginia, and all citizens are
urged to take advantage of consumer education and outreach
programs such as those administered by the West Virginia Attorney
General; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates
forward copies of this resolution to His Excellency, the
Governor, and to the Attorney General.
